Patricia

Patricia was a Grade 5 student who continuously thought of herself as 'a dumb little girl'. All through public school, she got by with the assistance of resource teachers. She treated was differently because she seemed slow.

I first took notice of Patricia while explaining Grade 10 math to another student. She picked up on what I was trying to tutor quicker than the student under my tutelage. After discussions with her parents, the school had Patricia tested. It was discovered that she is a gifted child with learning difficulties. She scored in the top 5% of her peers.

When Patricia was scheduled for Technical High Schooling. A.S.K. donated a Digital 450 Hi-Note lap-top computer for her use. She is now enjoying success in her education at a local vocational High School.

We, at A.S.K., wish her continued success with whatever she chooses for her life. Thank You Patricia, for opening our eyes to the necessity of such a program in our community and for being our first student requiring assistance.

Larry

We first met Larry through the local probation department. A minor, with no job, home or income, it was obvious that he was one of our children who had slipped through the cracks with no hope for any success in his future.

In speaking with Larry, I realized that he had his own hopes and dreams, but no method of even coming close to achieving them. He was swiftly entering the life of crime to just provide his daily existence.

After speaking with his probation officer, we worked together to provide him with an avenue he could follow. Larry was very sincere in his desire to pull away from his lifestyle, and with the donation of a computer, he enrolled at the Adult Learning Centre.

Today, Larry is working on completing his credits for grade 12, and has started a full-time job to pay for his own living accommodations.
